About this tool

Scale a 4K video down to 1080p or 720p, or fit it to the square or vertical format of social networks. The aspect ratio is respected and the video never leaves your device.

When to use it

Lighten a 4K video

Phones often film in 4K. For sharing or a presentation, 1080p is enough and cuts the size by three or four.

Post vertically on TikTok, Reels or Shorts

The 1080×1920 format stops the platform from cropping your video at random: add bars to keep everything, or crop to fill the screen.

Make videos consistent

For an edit or a web page, videos at the same resolution play one after another without jumps in size.

How to use

  1. Choose your video.
  2. Pick the new size and, for square or vertical, the fit.
  3. Click “Resize video” and download it.

How it works

Each frame is scaled by the browser to the new size, keeping even dimensions as video encoders require. The original aspect ratio is kept for standard sizes.

For square and vertical formats, the picture is either placed whole with black bars, or enlarged and center-cropped to fill the frame. The video is then re-encoded to MP4 at high quality.

Tips for best results

  • For online sharing, 720p offers the best quality-to-size ratio.
  • For TikTok and Reels, prefer cropping if the subject is centered.
  • Don't upscale a small video: quality won't improve.
  • If you only want a smaller file, “Video compressor” is more effective.
  • Filmed sideways? Fix it first with “Rotate video”.

Common problems and fixes

The video gets cropped on TikTok or Instagram

Switch it to vertical or square here before posting.

The upscaled video is blurry

Upscaling can't invent detail: keep the original resolution.

The video is too large

Switch to 720p or use “Video compressor”.

Frequently asked questions

Is the aspect ratio kept?

Yes for 1080p, 720p, 480p and so on: only the pixel count changes. For square and vertical, choose bars or cropping.

Can I upscale a video?

Yes, but upscaling doesn't add detail: a 480p video stretched to 1080p stays blurry.

What does 720p mean?

The short side of the picture is 720 pixels: 1280×720 for a landscape video, 720×1280 for a portrait one.

Is the sound kept?

Yes, the sound is kept as is.
