About this tool

This online mic test checks in seconds that your microphone picks up sound: real-time volume meter, microphone selection and a recording you can play back. It works with built-in mics, headsets, Bluetooth earbuds and USB microphones on Windows, Mac, Android and iPhone. The sound never leaves your browser.

How to use

Click “Start test” and allow microphone access.
Speak: the volume bar should move.
Record a few seconds, then play it back.

Common problems and fixes

The volume bar does not move

The browser has no access to the microphone or the wrong device is selected. Allow the mic (icon in the address bar), pick the right one in the list and start again.

The sound is quiet or crackles

Move closer, check the input level in your system sound settings and turn off audio enhancements if they distort your voice.

My mic works here but not in Zoom, Teams or Discord

The app uses another default device. Select the same microphone in its audio settings and close other apps using it.

Frequently asked questions

My microphone is not detected, what should I do?

Check that the browser is allowed to use the microphone (icon in the address bar), that it is not muted by a key, then pick the right microphone in the list.

Is my recording sent anywhere?

No. The sound stays in your browser and disappears when you close the page.

Does the mic test work on a phone?

Yes, on Android and iPhone: allow the microphone when asked, then speak close to the phone.

How do I test a Bluetooth headset mic?

Connect the headset, then pick it in the test's microphone list. Some headsets switch to phone quality while the mic is on: that is normal.
