About this tool
The online keyboard tester shows a virtual keyboard that lights up on every press: instantly spot a dead key, a stuck key or a limit on simultaneous keys (ghosting). It works with laptop, USB, Bluetooth and mechanical keyboards.
How to use
- Click “Start test”.
- Press every key: it lights up once tested.
- Press several keys together to check combinations.
Common problems and fixes
A key does not light up
Clean it with compressed air, try another computer to know whether the keyboard or the system is at fault, then check the keyboard layout.
A key stays lit
It may be stuck or shorted. Unplug the keyboard, clean around the key and test again.
Key combinations fail
Many office keyboards limit simultaneous keys. An anti-ghosting or N-key rollover keyboard avoids this in games.
Frequently asked questions
A key does not light up.
Clean it (compressed air), try another keyboard if possible, then check the keyboard layout in your system.
Why do some key combinations fail?
Many keyboards limit simultaneous keys (ghosting). This is normal beyond 3 to 6 keys.
Does the keyboard shown match mine?
Yes: the test recognises your system (Windows, macOS, Linux, ChromeOS) and your layout (QWERTY, AZERTY, QWERTZ). Chrome and Edge read the exact layout; otherwise a few key presses are enough. You can also pick it by hand.
Can I test Fn or media keys?
Those keys are often handled by the keyboard itself and are not always passed to the browser.
