About this tool

Common problems and fixes
Service is already included
In many European countries service is included: tipping is optional. Use 0% or 5%.
The total is not a round number
Tick “Round up”: everyone pays a round amount and the extra goes to the tip.
The amount is rejected
Use a dot or comma for cents, without a currency symbol.
Frequently asked questions
How much should I tip?
In the US, 15–20% is expected; in much of Europe, 5–10% for good service.
Is the tip calculated before or after tax?
Usually on the pre-tax amount, but the difference is small.
Which currency is used?
None in particular: the maths works for any currency.
