About this tool

Test your webcam online before a video call: the preview appears instantly, then the real resolution and frames per second are measured. Pick any camera (built-in, USB, phone) and take a test photo. No image is ever uploaded.

How to use

  1. Click “Start camera” and allow access.
  2. Check the image and read the resolution and frame rate.
  3. Take a test photo if needed.

Common problems and fixes

Black screen or camera not found

Another app is using the camera, or the privacy shutter is closed. Quit Zoom, Teams, Skype or the camera app, then reload the page.

Blurry or choppy image

Clean the lens and add light: in low light, cameras lower their frame rate. A USB 3 port helps external webcams.

Permission denied

Allow the browser in its privacy settings (Camera) and in your system privacy settings (Windows or macOS).

Frequently asked questions

The image stays black, why?

Another app may be using the camera (video call, camera app). Close it, check the physical camera shutter, then try again.

How many frames per second do I need?

25 to 30 frames per second give smooth video. Below 15, the lighting is often too dark.

What resolution should a good webcam show?

720p (1280 × 720) is enough for video calls; 1080p (1920 × 1080) looks sharp. The test shows the resolution actually delivered.

Can I test my phone's camera?

Yes: open the page on your phone and pick the front or back camera in the list.
