About this tool
Turn spaces, accents and symbols into %XX sequences to put them in a URL, or recover the original text. Paste a full URL in decode mode to see its parameters one by one.
How to use
- Choose encode or decode.
- Say whether it is a parameter value or a full URL.
- Copy the result.
Common problems and fixes
“&” breaks my parameter
Encode the value alone in “parameter value” mode: & becomes %26.
“Malformed % sequence”
A lone % or a Latin-1 encoded character (%E9) cannot be decoded as UTF-8. Encode the % as %25 first.
“+” signs stay as “+”
Tick “Read + as a space”: HTML forms encode spaces as +.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between the two modes?
“Parameter value” (encodeURIComponent) encodes everything, including / ? & =; “full URL” (encodeURI) keeps them.
Why is é written %C3%A9?
é takes two bytes in UTF-8 (C3 A9), each written as %XX.
Should I encode twice?
No: double encoding gives %2520 instead of %20 and the server will misread the value.
Are my URLs uploaded?
No, everything is done by your browser.
